Südafrika
Die Republik Südafrika liegt an der Südspitze Afrikas und hat rund 50 Mio. Einwohner_innen. Die Hauptstadt ist Kapstadt. Das Land ist für seine Vielfalt an Kulturen und Sprachen bekannt. So gibt es 11 Amtssprachen. 79,5 % der Bevölkerung ist schwarzafrikanischer Abstammung, doch in Südafrika lebt auch die größte Community an Menschen europäischer und indischer Abstammung in ganz Afrika. Südafrikas erstes Freiwilligenzentrum (Volunteer Center) startete in Kapstadt im Jahr 1979 als Projekt von Jugendlichen vor Ort. 1980 entstand daraus eine NGO. Die Kooperation mit dem ICYE-Netzwerk begann 2007 und 2009 wurde Südafrika ICYE-Mitglied.

Experience Südafrika – Arbeit mit Kindern: Baitul Ansaar
Our goal of service is to address the process of social change and development of all the children who have lost their parents, through a holistic and well formulated strategic development and economic plan. There is a structured Educare program (children from 3-6 years), with outings playing an important part of the childrens’ learning experience. Afternoons are devoted to homework time, extra mural activities, and religious time and lessons. The project is in Mitchells Plain – this is an urban township situated between 25 and 30 km outside of Cape Town Central.
Volunteer’s working time (both projects): Mostly from Monday to Friday. Working hours are between 20 and 40 hours a week.

Experience Südafrika – Arbeit mit Frauen: Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women & Children
The Centre opened in May 1999 and is a unique ‘one stop’ centre for women who experience domestic violence. The Centre serves as a model of service clustering entrepreneurial spirit by women for their own economic empowerment. The Shelter for women and their children has a 24-hour emergency hotline seven days a week. Main tasks of the volunteers are all-round support in the institution: from organizing up to supporting through the assistance in counseling. The project is in Athlone, Cape Town. The project only accepts female volunteers.
