The aim of the program is to provide food, shelter and education for orphanage and disadvantages children. Light for Nepal was established in May 2005 in Kathmandu District with a strong desire of offering free education, food and shelter for orphan and disadvantage children. Some of their parents have died due to a disease and some their parents have unstable incomes, frequently move between different jobs and often move to a new house/place, amongst other reasons. There are currently 14 children from 4 to 16 years.
Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging): This is a residential project so volunteers will stay inside the project, sharing rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program.
Lunch & dinner are provided at the project. Food is local style, cooked by a Nepalese family. The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables but once a week a project person can provide you meat in your lunch or dinner. For vegetarians, the choice is usually limited to vegetables, lentil soup and pickle.
