Nepal ist ein Binnenstadt in Südasien, die Hauptstadt ist Kathmandu. Die Einwohnerzahl beträgt 31 Mio., wovon 1 Mio. in der Hauptstadt leben. Bei den Religionen sind Hinduismus (81 %) und Buddhismus (9 %) vorherrschend. Die Amtssprache ist Nepali, man kann sich aber mit Englisch gut verständigen. Das ICYE-Programm startete in Nepal 2001, 2004 wurde es in „Nepal Volunteers and Cultural Youth Exchange Program“ (NVCYE-Program) umbenannt. Der Sitz ist in Kathmandu.

Einsatzstelle: Light for Nepal
The aim of the program is to provide food, shelter and education for orphanage and disadvantages children. Light for Nepal was established in May 2005 in Kathmandu District with a strong desire of offering free education, food and shelter for orphan and disadvantage children. Some of their parents have died due to a disease and some their parents have unstable incomes, frequently move between different jobs and often move to a new house/place, amongst other reasons. There are currently 14 children from 4 to 16 years.
Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging): This is a residential project so volunteers will stay inside the project, sharing rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program.
Lunch & dinner are provided at the project. Food is local style, cooked by a Nepalese family. The main types of food will be rice, lentil soup and vegetables but once a week a project person can provide you meat in your lunch or dinner. For vegetarians, the choice is usually limited to vegetables, lentil soup and pickle.
