Die Hauptstadt, Ciudad de México (Mexico City), befindet sich im Bundesstaat Michoacán. Die Bevölkerungszahl liegt bei ca. 120 Mio. Die Metropolregion „Zona Metropolitana del Vallé de Mexico“ (bestehend aus Mexiko-Stadt, dem östlichen Teil des Bundesstaates Mexiko und der Gemeinde Hidalgo) hat 20 Mio. Einwohner_innen und ist damit eine der größten der Welt. Unsere ICYE-Partnerorganisation ist SIIJUVE Mexico mit Sitz in Puebla. Das ICYE-Programm in Mexiko besteht seit 1967.

Experience Mexiko – Betreuung von Kindern und Jugendlichen: Aldea Infantil S.O.S

Aldea S.O.S. is a non-profit NGO that has existed since 1949. This organization is present in 8 regions of Mexico. This project gives the children a permanent home and a stable environment, helping them to create and build their own future and helping them become involved in the development of their communities. The SOS Children’s Village family-like structure is made up of four basic principles: mother, brothers and sisters, house and village. In Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the main activities done include physical and psychological rehabilitation through different kinds of therapy. The aim of these activities is to improve the childrens’ quality of life and to stimulate their personal skills in order to improve their self-confidence. Additionally, there are also other types of facilities and aid programs whose main intention it is to improve living conditions for families in the neighborhood on a long-term basis. The social centers, kindergartens, medical centers, training centers and schools are not only used by children and young people from the SOS Children’s Village but are also there for the general public.

Location: Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

Volunteer tasks: The volunteer will assist the teachers working on the children’s’ rehabilitation and education process. In the center, the children are divided into different groups, depending on their age. In each group there are two or three assistants who work in physical therapy, according to the needs of each child. Some of the older children do educational activities like drawing or painting, recognizing animals, numbers and colors. They also learn how to count, read and write simple words. The volunteers will work in various classrooms, depending on where they are needed: Sport activities, teaching support, gardening, social work, psychology and more.

Volunteer requirements/Skills: basic/intermediate Spanish level, interest in working with kids with disabilities, patience and sensitivity

Volunteer’s working time: from Tuesday to Saturday (from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M.). Working hours are between 30 and 40 hours a week.

Experience Mexiko – Umweltschutz und Arbeit mit Kindern: Ecological Center “Los Cuartos

This project offers Environmental Education Camps to children and youth from 6 to 16 years old, coming from the city and from vulnerable nearby communities. The project aims to generate, through different recreational activities, in the mind of children and youth the interest for being respectful towards and to take care of nature. During the year: organizing ecological activities, i.e. reforestation and environmental workshops, for groups of children coming from different schools. Summer time: organizing summer Environmental Education Camps as well as Green Weeks, in which the children have workshops on art and recycling, play different sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball, participate in a mini-Olympics, an ecological rally, etc.

Location: In an ancient homestead from the 16th century. The house has been remodeled for becoming an ecological center. It is located 5 km from the capital city of Aguascalientes.

Volunteer tasks: Workshops and games with children, develop new ideas in order to enrich the program, take care of children during the camp, take part in the activities of care of the farm and compost, reforestation activities, cleaning campaigns, etc. office work: the volunteer may help making some translations.

Volunteer requirements/Skills: Enthusiastic and open, interest in working with children, responsible. Age between 22 and 32 (younger volunteers can be accepted if the profile matches with project).

Volunteer’s working time: Mostly from Monday to Friday. Working hours are between 20 and 40 hours a week.

Host situation (board and lodging): within the project facilities.
