Die Republik Indonesien verteilt sich auf über 17 508 Inseln, darunter die Hauptinseln Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi und Neuguinea, die Hauptstadt ist Jakarta. Die Einwohnerzahl liegt bei ca. 250 Mio.  Die Partnerorganisation ist Dejavato (ICYE Indonesien) in Semarang.

Experience Indonesien/Bali – Bildung für Kinder und Jugendliche: Rural Primary Education

Primary school is the first step formal education level after kindergarten. It is a compulsory education that every child has to take. This educational level is not only about knowledge but also about other aspects such as character building. The teacher and the parents are having an important role in leading their children. In this level the aim is, to build discipline amongst the students and to develop their understandings on the need and importance of education. Furthermore, the aim is to prepare the students of kindergarten for elementary level and to prepare students of elementary school for the higher level of education.  Those schools are located in the rural area and some of them are located in the slope of the mountain. Most of the student parents’ are working in the private sector such as farming, trade, labor, etc. The school’s location might be far away from the public services such as sports centers, shopping malls or bus terminals. The local people’s characters are family oriented, having good friendship spirit, having plenty of time to spend nevertheless that they are less in touch with modern life and thinking.

Main Activities: Preparing the students for the higher level of education. Teaching and learning activities. Sports, art and music activities. Develop self-interest of the students.

Volunteer tasks: To organize learning basic English by doing games and entertaining activities for children; To organize sport activities; create other activities that will enrich the skill of the kids; introducing volunteer’s culture; intercultural learning/exchange.

Volunteer requirements / Skills: The volunteer should love to work with children and be open minded, mature, respectful of local customs, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, confident and independent, especially in motivating the students to speak up and be active in practicing conversation.  The volunteer cannot be vegan or strict vegetarian, but flexible vegetarian is still welcomed. The volunteer cannot have any piercings on the face, no visible tattoos and should have common hair style(no colorful hair or dreadlocks) and a Certificate of Good Conduct from the police.

Volunteers working time: Mostly from Monday to Friday. Working hours are between 20 and 40 hours a week.  

Location: These schools are located in the rural setting of some cities such as Jepara, Kudus, Pati, Cilacap, Pati

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging): The accommodation and food will be provided by the host project. The volunteer will stay at a local host family or a dormitory (to be confirmed).

The project site will take place in some places in Sulawesi Island, South Sulawesi Province area such as Makassar, Jeneponto and Bantaeng. We will collaborate this project with local schools from kindergarten to senior high schools.

Main Activities: The students learn compulsory lesson such as Math, science, social, language, religious, physic and etc. They also provide extra activities in order to search and find student’s interest such as music, art, sport and technology. 

Volunteer tasks: The role of the volunteer will be assisting local teacher in holding English subject as foreign language. Moreover, the presence of volunteers could give them motivation in practicing their foreign laguage knowledge. Intercultural learning in the form of dialogue, music and games could give the student better understanding to learn about another culture from other country.

Volunteer requirements / Skills: The volunteer should be open-minded, tolerant, creative, flexible, patient, respect the local customs and local’s rule, sharing , special drive for adolescent and youngsters, willing to accept basic living condition in the project site, and be confidence. The volunteer cannot have any piercings on the face, no visible tattoos and should have common hair style(no colorful hair or dreadlocks) and a Certificate of Good Conduct from the police.

Location: South Sulawesi Province, Sulawesi Island.
